A Photorealism Bird Painting of a Herring Gull at Lynmouth,
Devon, on the south-west coast of England. The scene is
on the river Lyn, and the Seagull was good enough to stay still
for several minutes as I took a number of Photographs.
The mood is quite low key, a study in muted grey-greens.
The yellow of the bill and the pink of the legs are played
down. Note how the spots on the Seagull's wing tips are
echoed in the blurred highlights of the water and in the
background rocks.
Some of the highlight effects were achieved by putting clear
water onto the dried paint and then dabbing with a tissue or
lifting out with the tip of a dry brush.
